I went to Ozato Matsubara! 「

Hey its Tony here!

In December last year, Global Kaiyo team members Gwenafaye, Jeff and I visited Ozato Matsubara beach. We previously visited in spring, so I thought we’d check out what it’s like in winter!

We started from the small parking lot at the northernmost part of the beach, which is where we parked and began our walk through the forest.

Although Ozato Matsubara is famous for its pine tree forest, the northern part of the forest doesn’t seem to have many pine trees growing. It was instead more jungle-like with thick vegetation. We eventually found ourselves in an area of sparsely spread pine trees the further south we went.

There were a couple of openings in the sea wall, which we went through to take a closer look at the beach. The weather wasn’t exactly the best on this day, but the water was still very clear and you could see a nice light blue tint in the water.

We also climbed up the observation building for a better view. From up here, the beach appears fairly flat. But if you actually walk on the beach along the shoreline, you can see that there’s a fairly deep dip in elevation from all of the waves digging into the beach’s pebbly surface.

The place that I lived at in Sydney was around 45 minutes from the beach by car. The place that I live at in Kaiyo right now is much closer to the beach, so I can enjoy the beach whenever I want! The great thing about Ozato Matsubara beach is that you can walk on the beach without the pebbles getting into your shoes. I’m not sure I could say the same about sandy beaches.

I also saw a couple of anglers camped on the beach that day. I’m curious to see what fish you can catch here.

After checking out the beach, we headed back to the carpark by tracing path through the pine forest. It was on this path that we made one last interesting discovery: a deer footprint! I’m used to spotting deer in more hilly, mountainous areas in Kaiyo, so I was totally surprised that there were deer running through here so close to the beach.

I enjoyed our refreshing afternoon walk through nature and by the beach very much! Maybe we’ll come back next in October for the Autumn festival at the Ozato Hachiman Shrine!
