Mt. Myoken

Mt. Myoken is located in the Kaifu district of Kaiyo overlooking the Kaifu river and Pacific ocean. Perched at the top of the mountain is the Akiragen shrine.

There are two paths up the mountain, one of which is a long staircase beginning from the southern side of the mountain in the Okuura neighborhood.

The other route starts near the PIA supermarket complex and winds its way up the mountain. During cherry blossom season, the petals of cherry blossom trees blanket this pathway. Bonbori lanterns illuminate both pathways up the mountain.

Throughout the month of November, you can find yakkoso, a rare parasitic plant that grows from the roots of certain trees. Mt. Myoken is also one of the northernmost points in Japan, along with Mt. Suzugamine in Shishikui, where yakkoso is known to be found.

The temple can be accessed via car, or via a 5-minute walk from the Kaifu station.
