Takegashima Island
Takegashima is an island south-east of Kaiyo’s Shishikui district and is the southernmost point of Tokushima prefecture.
Known for its rich marine ecosystem, the island is home to many species of coral and fish which visitors can get up close with through the Marine Jam aquarium and marine activity center.
For the nature enthusiasts, there is also the lushly forested Shikoku-no-michi nature trail that loops through the central part of the island and around its coast. The 1.9km scenic trail offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and ocean.
In addition to its natural beauty, Takegashima is also steeped in cultural significance. Home to the Takegashima Shrine, the island hosts the annual Takegashima Shrine Festival, the earliest festival held each year in all of Tokushima Prefecture.
