We Love Our Town

[The students of Shishikui Junior High School made this introduction to the area around their school.]

Please look! This is beautiful Shishikui. Shishikui has a lot of nature. There are beautiful mountains. We love Shishikui because it’s quiet and relaxed. The mountains make us happy. We heard that if we look at the mountains for a long time, we will have better eyesight.

Behind the school, there is Mt. Suzugamine. The school’s name is written in flowers. The town is surrounded by green.

This is Gion Shrine near our school. It’s hidden in the forest. It’s beautiful. We can feel divine energy when we are here.

These are the Koma Inu. They protect the Gion shrine near our school. Some students think they are cute, and some think they are scary.  They are strong. One has its mouth open and one has its mouth closed.

This is the shrine’s Maneki Neko. It is cute. It gives us good luck.

This is the Shishikui River. You can swim here. We have P.E. here sometimes.

You can see long arm shrimp here. We call this point “Seki.”

This is Mt. Suzugamine. It’s beautiful. There are 88 Jizo statues on it.

You can see Yakkoso (Botanical name: Mitrastemon yamamotoi).

“I ran up the mountain on New Year’s morning in 30 minutes.”
