We held the first Global Lab | グローバル・ラボを開催したよ!
みなさん、こんにちは！
9月25日、子どもたち向けの新イベントシリーズ「グローバルラボ」の第１回目を開催したよ！アメリカでの夏休みのキャンプ文化に触れるいい機会だと思うので、その一日の活動をチェックしてね！
Hello everyone!
On September 25th, we had the first event in our new Global Lab series for kids at the Funatsu Campground. It was a great chance to experience a bit of what American summer camp is like – let’s take a look at what we got up to!
参加する子どもたちや保護者、グローバルスタッフが船津キャンプ場に集合し、簡単に一日の予定を説明した後で、最初に工作をしたよ。工作と自然の中で時間を過ごすことはアメリカのキャンプにとって大切なので、今回は「サンキャッチャー」というものを作ったよ！
After everyone was gathered and a short introduction to the day’s events, we kicked things off by doing a craft. Since both crafts and being in nature are important parts of American summer camp, we blended the two by making these suncatchers!
みんなは自由にフレームをデザインし、サンキャッチャーの中に入れるために自分の気に入った葉っぱなど、自然の素材を集めたよ。一緒にやっていた大人たちも楽しんでいたよ！みんな絵が上手だったし、すてきな自然のピースが集まって、サンキャッチャーを作る体験は素晴らしかったよ。
First, everyone designed their frames as they liked, then we all hunted for interesting pieces of nature to put inside. Even some of our adults got in on the fun! All in all, these turned out great.
昼ご飯になって、美味しいバーベキューしたよ。工作と同じぐらい楽しかったな！
After that, we had a delicious barbeque lunch! Honestly, I think this was just as fun as our craft.
その次は、ゲームを通じて、英語を練習し、アメリカ文化にたくさん触れたよ。みんなは「だるまさんが転んだ」を知っているはずだけど、アメリカのバージョンがあるのを知っているかな？「Red Light, Green Light」、（赤信号、青信号）と呼んでいるよ！同じルールなので、同じように楽しめると思う。
Afterward, to get our energy out, we got active and played a game – while also practicing some English and learning some more American culture! We played “Red Light, Green Light,” which has the same rules as だるまさんが転んだ in Japan.
最後に、アイスクリームを作ったよ！作り方は、材料と好みの味をジップロックに入れて、ちゃんとふたを閉めて、もっと大きな袋に氷と塩とさっきの袋を一緒に入れて振るだけ。5分ぐらいでおいしいアイスクリームができたよ！とても簡単なので、ぜひ、ご家庭でも試してみてね
Finally, to wrap up the day, we made ice cream in a bag! After putting our ingredients and preferred flavoring into a smaller Ziploc bag, we sealed them up tightly and put them in larger ones with a lot of ice and salt. After shaking for about five or so minutes, we got to have delicious ice cream! This is so easy to do, I really recommend trying it at home, too.
We had a great time playing all day up in the mountains, with the sound of the river rushing nearby. We hope you can make it to our next Global Lab event sometime soon! Until next time!
